Former NTS Transport Manager receives OBE from The King

Tommy Spedding receiving his OBE from King Charles

Tommy Spedding, a former Transport Manager at NTS, has received an OBE from King Charles at Windsor Castle, 13 months after it was announced in the 2022 New Year Honours List.

Tommy was involved in nuclear transports for almost 42 years before retiring last year. The last 15 years of his career were spent as a Transport Manager at NTS where he was responsible for organising and co-ordinating complex nuclear shipments ensuring that they were planned and delivered safely and securely.

The majority of these transports were performed in collaboration with UK and overseas governments, primarily the US Government, in support of international non-proliferation and global security goals. During his career Tommy has played a crucial role in shipments of nuclear materials to the US from Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Sweden and Japan, with the shipments from Japan attracted special praise from the US Government.

Tommy attended the ceremony at Windsor Castle with his wife Diane, son Steven and daughter Abi. Speaking about his award Tommy said:

“Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would be worthy of such an honour. This wouldn’t have been possible without the support and contribution of the rest of the NTS team, who have provided the foundation for me to be considered for the award.”
