For more than 45 years, PNTL vessels have carried nuclear materials safely and securely around the world.
Today, PNTL operates three purpose-built ships dedicated to the transport of nuclear materials – giving our customers access to the very highest standards of safety and security for their cargoes.
Specialist ships
PNTL’s specialist vessels are classified by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) at its highest level of INF3, which means they can carry all types and categories of nuclear cargoes.
Designed for safety, the vessels are protected by a double hull and all essential systems have at least one backup to provide extra resilience.
PNTL vessels continue to carry spent fuel, MOX fuel assemblies and vitrified high level waste between Japan and Europe for our longstanding customers in the Japanese power industry.

PNTL’s crews are the most experienced in the world at transporting nuclear materials.
On average, each crew member has more than 20 years of experience with the company. All are dedicated to maintaining our exemplary nuclear safety record.
