NTS signs Mental Health in Maritime pledge
Nuclear Transport Solutions (NTS) has underlined its commitment to promoting positive mental health and wellbeing by signing Maritime UK’s Mental Health in Maritime pledge.
The pledge aims to ensure that employee mental health and wellbeing are considered at the highest levels across the maritime sector, and calls upon maritime organisations to make a public commitment which states:
“We are committed to improving the quality of mental health and wellbeing provision through action and support, at all levels, throughout our organisation and our industry.”
NTS operates Pacific Nuclear Transport Ltd (PNTL), the most experienced shipper of nuclear materials in the world. From its home port in Barrow-in-Furness PNTL’s specialist vessels have carried nuclear materials safely and securely around the world for more than 45 years.
The pledge demonstrates NTS and PNTL’s public commitment to ensure mental health and wellbeing is continuously improved for all its shipping employees, afloat and ashore.
Peter Buchan, NTS Shipping Director, said:
“NTS’s success relies on ensuring our employees are given the right environment to thrive, excel and perform at their personal best. The mental health and wellbeing of our people is as important as their physical health, and we are totally committed to working with compassion and understanding, leading with positive, visible action to support anyone experiencing mental health issues”.
The pledge forms a key pillar of Maritime UK’s Diversity in Maritime programme, alongside the Women in Maritime pledge signed in June 2020 by PNTL.
Chrissie Clarke, Head of Diversity and Operations at Maritime UK, said: “Maritime UK is delighted that Nuclear Transport Solutions has signed the Mental Health Pledge. The pledge is an important step to increasing the quality of mental health and wellbeing provisions across organisations. We are calling on more organisations to get involved and commit to improving diversity and inclusion.”
